In 2011, Inner East Melbourne Medicare Local established a skills based board with directors all appointed by an independent nominations committee.

Our continuing directors: Linden Smibert, Patrick Crowe, Damian Barry, Veronika Kirchner, Daryl Kroschel and Lindsay McMillan, are joined by new directors: Elizabeth Corbett and Michael Feehan.

Our new structure aims to provide not only good corporate governance, but also enable us to effectively deliver on our strategic objectives as a Medicare Local.


Board of Directors

Linden Smibert, Chair
Linden has extensive board level experience, including over ten years in the health, not for profit and education sectors. She has successfully steered organisations through significant change management processes, introduced effective financial management and governance practices. Linden is a general practitioner with over 20 years of experience and is currently Chair of General Practice Victoria, Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and member of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

Patrick Crowe, Deputy Chair/Media spokesperson
Patrick brings strategic and executive management experience; holding directorship and clinical advisory roles in the numerous education, health and not for profit organisations. He is a general practitioner with over 30 years of experience, with extensive knowledge of aged care, after hours, ehealth and chronic disease management. As media spokesperson, Pat has represented organisations at a local, state and federal level, and has detailed stakeholder and community engagement experience.
 
Damian Barry, Treasurer
Damian is a professional manager with over 20 years experience in the health, government and education sectors covering local and international operations. He has served on boards of private companies and is currently a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Damian has qualifications in economics, law, information systems and education management. In 2006, Damian became the first non-GP board member of Whitehorse Division of General Practice.

Elizabeth Corbett
Elizabeth is an experienced allied health professional and small business owner with over 25 years experience working in, or consulting to the health, community, tertiary education and government sectors.  She has served on boards in health, community and disability areas.  Elizabeth is the immediate past president of Yooralla and is currently a non-executive director on the Nurses and Midwives Health Program (Victoria) board and the Victorian Government's Disability Services board.

Michael Feehan
Michael was previously a director at Western Health, where he chaired or was a member of most of the board committees during his nine year term.  He has worked in business management, corporate affairs and as a business consultant in the technology and law sector. Michael brings an excellent understanding of the Victorian health system and detailed experience in corporate governance and business.

Veronika Kirchner
Veronika is a general practitioner with 30 years experience and currently consults at the Epworth Freemasons Hospital Women’s Health Clinics. She was a director on the Board of Melbourne East GP Network for five years and is a member of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She is a member of the Audit, Risk and Finance Committee of the Inner East Melbourne Medicare Local and is chair of the Clinical Education Alliance. 

Daryl Kroschel
Daryl brings a wealth of experience as a general practitioner; having worked in both the United Kingdom and Australia. He has held positions in emergency departments, worked in sports medicine and taught at Deakin University. He is currently Clinical Director with Modern Medical and is a member of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Lindsay McMillan 
Lindsay brings significant leadership experience; working at an executive and non-executive level across complex health, disability, broadcasting and community health services organisations. He has a detailed understanding of healthcare in Australia, and is qualified to provide strategic advice in the areas of governance, strategy and health care policy, particularly on chronic Illness and service delivery.
