Changes to Australia's childhood immunisation arrangements
The Government is introducing reforms to Australia's childhood immunisation arrangements that aim to increase the immunisation rates of Australian children over time.

Prevenar 13 supplementary dose
From 1 July 2011 7vPCV (Prevenar) was replaced with 13vPCV (Prevenar 13). From 1 October 2011 to 30 September 2012, the Commonwealth Government is providing a free supplementary dose of Prevenar 13 to eligible children so they can benefit from protection from the additional six disease strains covered by Prevenar 13.

New Parent Boostrix Program Extension- 30 June 2012
The free pertussis vaccine for new parents, Boostrix, will be extended for another 12 months to the 30 June 2012.
Partners may have the Boostrix vaccine at any time during pregnancy and the mother can be vaccinated shortly after delivery.

Ideally anyone planning pregnancy should receive a pertussis containing vaccine, however this is not a free vaccine.

The Victorian Department of Health can provide information about the current vaccine schedule, vaccine preventable diseases, vaccine types and side effects to immunisation providers.

General Practice Immunisation Incentives (GPII)
The GPII provides financial incentives to general practices for monitoring, promoting and providing appropriate immunisation services to children under the age of seven years.
The aim of the GPII is to encourage at least 90 per cent of practices to fully immunise at least 90 per cent of children under seven years of age attending their practice.

Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR)
ACIR is a national register administered by Medicare that records details of vaccinations given to children under seven years of age who live in Australia.
Immunisation service providers should send details of all National Immunisation Program and private vaccinations given to children less than seven years of age to ACIR.

Royal Children's Hospital Immunisation Clinic
The immunisation centre is available for telephone advice for immunisation providers and parents of children. It operates a clinic for children who require follow up of complex immunisation issues. Scheduled immunisations can also be provided at the Drop-in Centre.

SAEFVIC -Adverse Events Reporting
In Victoria, significant adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) can be notified to SAEFVIC. This specialist service has been established to help immunisation providers manage patients who have had an AEFI. It is for all immunisation adverse events in both children and adults
